Upgrading the Aprons for Fifty Tales: A Modern Malaysian Chinese Cuisine Restaurant

Fifty Tales began its journey as a humble noodle bar but has since transformed into a vibrant restaurant serving an eclectic mix of modern Chinese cuisines. As their business flourished and their team grew to accommodate the increasing number of customers, particularly during peak hours, the founders recognized the need to upgrade their team’s uniforms.
Having previously sourced their chef jackets from us, the founders approached us again — this time to create custom aprons for both their preparation and serving teams.
Identifying the Challenges
The founder shared specific feedback on the shortcomings of their previous aprons (not from us). The primary issues were:
- Durability: The aprons tore easily and developed holes due to frequent rubbing against countertops. This required an upgrade to a thicker, more rub-resistant material.
- Length for Protection: The preparation team needed longer aprons to protect themselves from hot soup splashes, especially during peak hours when the risk was higher.
- Functionality for the Serving Team: The serving team needed half aprons that allowed for better mobility and included multiple pockets to store essential tools like iPads for their ordering system, pens, and notebooks.
Tailored Solutions
We developed customized solutions to address these unique requirements:
- For the Preparation Team: We designed aprons using 100% cotton canvas, the same sustainable material as our Hayden Series. This fabric is highly durable and resistant to abrasion, making it ideal for the demands of the kitchen. To meet their specific needs, we tailored the aprons to be thicker and longer, offering both durability and protection.
- For the Serving Team: We adapted our Gwen Series aprons to create a design with multiple compartments for storing essential tools. These half aprons, crafted from 100% cotton, provided the serving team with the durability and functionality they required, while allowing for ease of movement.

The custom aprons we delivered not only solved the issues of durability and functionality but also complemented the professional aesthetic of Fifty Tales. The preparation team now has aprons that withstand heavy use, while the serving team enjoys practical and stylish aprons that enhance their efficiency during service.
